In some two decades, Oklahoma City has seen a revival. A once-dormant economy is now thriving; a waning city core, by many accounts, is being renewed.
How did it happen — and what can a similarly-sized metro area like Memphis learn? The man credited with spearheading much of the turnaround, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, will be in town Wednesday to share ideas in a lunchtime event sponsored by the local chapter of the Urban Land Institute.
“It’s part inspiration, it’s part motivational, and at the same time, I think there’s lessons that any community can draw upon,” Cornett said in an interview last week. “ Basically, this is our story, and other cities where I give talks seem to all draw something out.”
