On Tuesday afternoon, I spent some time at FedExForum for an event sponsored by the local entity of the Urban Land Institute, which is a group of the city’s influential architects, planners and real estate developers.
The hook? Jason Wexler, the Grizzlies’ chief operating officer, is part of the group’s leadership. (You’ll recall, of course, that he came to the Grizzlies after a time with Henry Turley Company.) So Wexler invited ULI (and, well, me) down for a tour.
Wexler told the group that part of his mission is to forge the same bond between franchise and community that the team has forged with the community. I.e., get the business side as shoulder-to-shoulder with local businesses and just the citizenry in general as much as people feel like they’re shoulder-to-shoulder with Z-Bo or Tony Allen. So events like these, and presentations like the one he gave, are part of that.
